Thailand has to be at the top of a good number peoples list when they design their journey to Asia. Pattaya is one of the hottest cities to see for many people visiting the nation. This has not been a accepted destination for families as it appeals to a certain segment of tourists with more prurient interests. This is one facet of the city that the local government has been working vigorously to change.
There has been a large push by the Pattaya city council has been hard at work trying to revitalize the city’s image. One of the things that they have been doing is trying to replace a lot of bars and entertainment complexes with new hotels and shopping malls.
There is a big push to improve the infrastructure of the city and to make it a more family friendly place.
In an attempt to bring in tourists from all over the globe they have been advertising in many new markets. They want to obtain people from across the planet to experience a new holiday and attempt South East Asia travel. They have seen an increase a large growth in tourism numbers.
People in government are still trying to decide if this is actually been a benefit. These new types of tourists come with a different mindset and don’t spend their dollars quite so freely.
Instead of going out to visit the new shopping malls and spending lots of money these tourists are quite happy sitting on the beach all day. There is no where near the same amount of money flowing into the Pattaya economy when compared to the tourists they are trying to replace. The business impact is huge, you now see some long standing small businesses closing up shop.
Whether the local government has made a good decision to try and promote this city as a new family friendly destination is still up for debate. Not everyone believes that this should be the way of the future for tourism in Pattaya.
